Evelyn

We trip the light fantastic on a Sunday afternoon
My boyfriend's suit's electric and it lights up the whole room

We dance with different partners but his eye is on the girl
Who sings a happy little tune about the end of the world

So we dance to the left and we dance to the right
And the music never stops till the dying of the light

Ramble Jack

Ramble Jack went walking
down long and dusty trails

Ramble Jack went striding
in green and misty vales

Ramble Jacks's a wanderer
He's a friend to every man

Ramble Jack please come home
to where it all began.

Threads

The robin dances in the yard and I watch it from my seat by the bay window
where I spend my days weaving my shroud
snipping the threads of an ever shortening span

If I die in summer bury me in a sun dappled field

And if I die in autumn let me rest under the branches
of the gnarled oak tree

If it is in winter let the north wind carry my soul away

And if it is in springtime let the fragrance of the lilies
usher me into everlasting day

Down Season Redux

The slate gray skies are cold and hard this morning
Sullen clouds go scudding 'cross the bleak tableau
Obscuring my view of you
The weeping rain echoes my sentiments
And I take another sip of this poison I alone have brewed

I drink this down season to its dregs
And stare into the corpse-cold distance
I lie in the sodden grass lie an abandoned mausoleum
And bleat my fear and sorrow
Where are you? Where are you? I call
Won't you wrap your arms around me?
Or have I crucified them
Again?

Vagabond Song

Gravity pulls me down and tries to chain me to this earth
a vain attempt to shackle me to this temporal plane
For I am not made of earth stuff
Just a vagabond in this sphere
Passing through, passing through...

My soul soars through blue black skies
On condor wings I fly accompanied by orchestral maneuvers of the galaxy
I who was known before the foundation of the world
Named by the Creator when He named the stars
and like them I was made to shine

So hold me down no longer
for I was born to roam
From darkened skies to break of day
I am coming home

Endless Sea

Drifting on an open sea
Lifeboat come and rescue me
Sirens reach from 'neath the waves
To drag me down to a watery grave

Drifting on an endless sea
Savior come and rescue me
Dead things call from fathoms deep
Searching for my soul to keep

Captain come and calm the storm
Save me from aquatic doom
Silence waves and darkling things
Raise me up and I will sing
